This post is about what to expect when your horse joins the River Horse Ranch equestrian facility. Horses are given the space to take in their surroundings, see the arena, neighboring horses, and new smells. I have found that turning them out in the arena gives them an opportunity to move freely. I give the horse space to take in their surroundings, see the arena, neighboring horses, and new smells. This allows the horse to explore, stretch, just be a horse so they take it all in with out the pressure of a human. The length of time and the amount of human involvement in this event depends on the horses response and temperament.

Their first night at RHR horses stay in one of our 12 X 12 stalls with fresh pine shavings. The stalls are airy with open tops and windows on all sides. Every horse has 24/7 access to slow feed on low sugar, high quailty hay. As the sun rises RHR horses begin their day by being moved into a turn out. Most horses at the ranch are turned out in same sex small groups of 3-5 horses. There are a few private turn outs available for horses that have special needs or are staying for a short time at the ranch. Turnout times are a minimum of 12 hours out side every day, rain or shine. Slow feed hay nets are available in turn out as well as shaded watering areas. In the summer we offer hosing services, night turn out, fans in stalls and arena lights for night/early morning riding.

At RHR horses are lead by our detailed staff using high quality, hand tied rope halters. The RHR staff are well practiced in handling a variety of temperaments and stay focused on the care and safety of all the horses. Here at the ranch our ground work starts as soon as we pick up the halter and enter turnout or stall.

Their first training session will involve a moving evaluation without tack in the covered round pen. I use this opportunity to evaluate horses soundness, strengths and weaknesses. This is also the time where I get a feel for how the horse feels about their relationship with humans. Every horse at RHR starts on the same path with the same treatment but they all require a slightly different approach to their individual needs. A horses mental and physical soundness being of the up most importance to my training philosophy. Horses at RHR are happy, calm and get the support they need to be the best version of themselves.

The Jennuine Horse team demonstrates a horse first focus and prioritizes their growth and well being. The Jenniune training approach assesses where the horse is and then progresses as their competency and abilities change. All while checking in with the horse to be sure they are a willing participant in the training. Skills like ground tying, tying, trail riding, ground driving/long lining, fundamentals of classical dressage, working gates, dragging and ponying are all aptitudes that are focused on in the training program.

Our goal is to develop confident and versatile horses. We do this by teaching horses and thier humans how to better communicate.
